QuiltCon · 2024 · Raleigh

First time in Raleigh? As a local quilter, I want to help ensure you have a great time while in our fine city. A Raleigh area native, I’ve compiled a list here of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and things to do nearby if you want to get out of the building for a while. I hope this helps you to enjoy your time at QuiltCon while here in the Old North State.

There is a wide variety of excellent, affordable restaurants in downtown Raleigh. I curated this list to only include options within short walking distances to the convention center. Also, I’ve mostly included affordable restaurants and/or ones which include options that won’t break the budget. I have been to most of these restaurants and personally recommend them. Others I have heard talk of for years, and know them to be consistently delicious.

Google the places you are interested in to explore their menus and check hours before you plan to go. Enjoy exploring this short list of locally owned eateries, and feel free to reach out with any questions.

While I am happy to provide this list, recognize I am but merely a messenger. I cannot be responsible for a mediocre experience.

As with most urban downtown areas, there are a ton of coffee shops and bars to explore. This is a short list of places I have enjoyed over the years, and places I have known friends to enjoy if I have not been there myself.

You might want to get out of the building for a change of scenery or some fresh air. Most of these suggestions would only take 1-2 hours of the day. First listed are those within walking distance to the convention center, then a few places which would require a car.

Raleigh was established as the capital city of North Carolina in 1792. Yes, it is named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who funded the first expeditions off of our coast atround present day Manteo, NC.

Our current population is just under 500,000. We are a small, big city which has made great strides in recent years to increase inclusivity while building community. I can speak from personal experience, having formerly worked for Wake County Schools Center for International Enrollment, people from quite literally all over the world call our area home.

Below are some sites to visit to learn more about our fine city.

If you would like to have the lists sent to your inbox, you will have access to the PDFs with working links to each establishment. You can pull the lists up on your phone, and not have to go through my website each time.  (Though I love having you on my website.)
