I’m so glad you are here! 😃 In this section, I will be sharing what inspired this tote pattern idea. I will also do a show-and-tell of a few bags I have made. This is to get you thinking about personalized variations you would like to include for your tote. Most importantly, I will advise you on how to select a t-shirt that work best for this tote project. Finally, I will review the materials needed before we begin construction.
How to cut the t-shirt into two pieces. Applying stabilizer. Cutting it the appropriate size for the bag. Attaching the bag bottom. Sewing the interior accent fabric to the lining.
The inside pocket(s) may be cut from the T-shirt, or an accent fabric. If the T-shirt has a small emblem on the front, using this for the pocket piece is explained.
A size 60 (1.5″) button is recommended. Details about how to sew it to the bag. Also, demonstrating how to construct the button loop.
The handles are my favorite part of this tote! They really add that custom pop to the look.
A Note About Boxing Corners
Let’s see the final tote in detail. Final Thoughts.
I enjoyed making the T-shirt Tote. The pattern was easy to follow and went together rather quickly. Can easily be made in a day.
I so enjoyed creating my own tote bag from one of my favorite, but not worn anymore shirts. I just couldn’t get rid of it & this was the perfect project for it. The pattern is very well written & the end project is simply fabulous! My mom & mother-in-law have already given me shirts so they can have a bag also. They’re in love with my bag!
I think this is a great pattern & I enjoyed making the tote. I’ll definitely be making another one. The bag came together in about 3 hours from start to finish.
